Malawi holds Roundtable, signs CAADP compact

On April 19th to 20th, 2010, Malawi held its Roundtable culminating in the signing of its CAADP compact. Malawi becomes the 18th country on the continent to do so.

Guinea holds Roundtable, signs CAADP compact

On April 6th to 7th, 2010, Guinea held its Roundtable culminating in the signing of its CAADP compact. Guinea becomes the twelfth country in West Africa and the 17th on the continent to do so.

6th CAADP Partnership Platform to be held April 19-23, 2010

The 6th CAADP Partnership Platform (PP) will take place next week in Johannesburg, South Africa from April 19-23, 2010. The CAADP PPs are held every six months in order to review progress and country-level experiences in implementation of the framework.

Welcome to the January/February Issue of the ReSAKSS e-Newsletter

The significant progress made at the country level toward CAADP implementation in mid to late 2009 is continuing into 2010. Since the November/December issue of the ReSAKSS e-Newsletter, two countries have held Roundtables and signed CAADP compacts (Senegal and Cape Verde) and one country – Togo –held their post-compact meeting. Five more countries are scheduled to hold Roundtables and sign compacts within the next 2 months.

NEPAD to Host ReSAKSS M&E Validation Workshop, March 1-4, 2010

NEPAD will host a workshop from March 1 to 4, 2010 in Johannesburg, South Africa to review and validate the ReSAKSS M&E framework for CAADP implementation.

The meeting will provide a forum for discussion by key stakeholders to review similar M&E efforts in an effort to create a harmonized strategy. Participants will include representatives from ReSAKSS, the African Union, NEPAD, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), the CAADP Pillar Institutions, farmers organizations, countries and development partner organizations.

Two More Countries Hold Roundtables and Sign CAADP Compacts, Several Others Scheduled

Senegal and Cape Verde now join the twelve other countries in Africa that have held Roundtables and signed CAADP compacts. Senegal held their Roundtable from February 9 to 10, 2010 while Cape Verde held theirs on December 10 and 11, 2009.

Five additional countries have now scheduled dates for their Roundtables and compact signings by mid-April, 2010, including Malawi, Swaziland, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

ReSAKSS-ECA Hosts Research Forum on Animal Feed Use in East Africa

On December 9th, ReSAKSS-ECA in collaboration with the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) hosted a Research for Development forum on animal feed use in East Africa. The subject of the forum falls under CAADP Pillar 4 on agricutlural research, technology dissemination and adoption. The speaker was Ben Lukuyu, a feed specialist from ILRI, and the two panelists were Derek Baker, an agricultural economist from ILRI and Mr. William Amwayi from the Kenya Bureau of Standards. The facilitator of the forum was Julliet Wanjiku from ReSAKSS-ECA.
