The Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, under the auspices of the African Union (AU), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in cooperation with the African Development Bank (AfDB) and other partners, will host a High-Level Conference on Development of Agribusiness and Agro-Industries in Africa (HLCD-3A) in Abuja (Nigeria) in November 2009.
The HLCD-3A will convene African Heads of State, Heads of Government, Ministers and senior policy makers, as well as senior representatives of financial institutions. Invitees will consider and endorse specific commitments to enhance the role of agribusiness and agro-industries in promoting food security, employment generation and sustainable economic growth in Africa.
Building on recommendations of the Global Agro-industries Forum (GAIF) 2008 and the High Level Conference on World Food Security (HLC) 2008, the HLCD-3A will pave the way for the development of specific regional and national strategies to support agribusiness and agro-industrial development within the scope of agricultural and economic development frameworks and financing mechanisms. The event is being convened to bring to the forefront solutions to Africa’s food and agricultural problems using appropriate and up-to-date strategies and approaches.
