AKADEMIYA2063, in partnership with the African Union Commission (AUC), convened a virtual 2020 ReSAKSS Annual Conference to promote review and dialogue on the role of public policies in ensuring sustainable and resilient agrifood systems and their transformation in Africa. The conference took place virtually on 3–5 November 2020 under the theme of “Sustaining Africa’s Agrifood System Transformation: The Role of Public Policies.”
AKADEMIYA2063 through its Executive Chairperson Dr. Ousmane Badiane is pleased to congratulate H.E Josefa Sacko on her second term as African Union Commissioner to lead the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment (DARBE). AKADEMIYA2063 and ReSAKSS look forward to continuing the longstanding partnership with her new department.
The pandemic is likely to be more disruptive to local food markets and thus have more serious effects on the poorest and most vulnerable groups and communities than any of the crises in recent years. This is because the poor and vulnerable are affected by changes in local food staple prices significantly more than other population groups, not only because of more limited purchasing power but also because of differences in consumption baskets.
A soil scientist at The Ohio State University whose research spans five continents has been awarded this year’s World Food Prize for increasing the global food supply by helping small farmers improve their soil.
