This brief highlights South Africa’s performance in the second BR and assesses challenges faced and lessons learned by the South Africa team during the review process. The brief also reviews policy and programmatic changes in South Africa that can be attributed to the first (2017) and second BRs. It concludes by highlighting required policy actions for South Africa to meet the Malabo commitments by 2025.
AKADEMIYA2063, in partnership with the African Union Commission (AUC), is convening a virtual 2021 ReSAKSS Annual Conference to promote review and dialogue on the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on African food systems and policy options to ensure recovery and strengthen resilience to future shocks. The conference will take place virtually on 15–17 November 2021 under the theme of “Building resilient African food systems after COVID-19.”
This report on African trade highlights opportunities and challenges for trade expansion, pointing out that the continent will face significant challenges in meeting the Malabo Declaration goal of tripling the value of intra-African agricultural trade by 2025.
In the wake of the 2021 UN Food Systems Summit, the 50x2030 Initiative to Close the Agricultural Data Gap will host its next seminar, Transforming Food Systems in Africa: Resilience through Agricultural Data on 30 September from 9.30-11:00am New York Time (4:30-6pm Nairobi Time).
Moderating the launch of the AATM today during the AGRF 2021, was Ms. Sara Mbago-Bhunu, Director, East and Southern Africa Division, International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). She noted that the 2021 Africa Agriculture Trade Monitor (AATM) Report analyzes continental and regional trends in African agricultural trade flows and policies.
