The significant progress made at the country level toward CAADP implementation over the past several months is continuing into mid-2010. Since the January/February issue of the ReSAKSS e-Newsletter, four countries have held Roundtables and signed CAADP compacts. Three of these countries are in the COMESA region (Malawi, Swaziland, and Uganda) and one (Guinea) is in the ECOWAS region. Several other countries, including Cote d’Ivoire and Zambia, are scheduled to hold their Roundtables in the coming months.
The ReSAKSS network has continued to monitor these developments by fulfilling its mandate to analyze, review and track country progress toward CAADP implementation and the first Millennium Development Goal (MDG1). In January, the ReSAKSS team met to outline the consolidated ReSAKSS work plan for 2010, which emphasized the full operationalization and implementation of the CAADP Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Framework at the regional and country levels in Africa. This Framework was validated at the CAADP M&E Framework Validation workshop hosted by the African Union Commission (AUC) and the NEPAD Planning and Coordinating Agency (NPCA) in Johannesburg, South Africa from March 1 to 3, 2010 as noted in the Communiqué from the workshop. Based on the validated CAADP M&E Framework, ReSAKSS prepared the Comprehensive M&E Report for the CAADP implementation which is a major output of the M&E system. ReSAKSS has also published the 2009 Africa Wide Annual Trends and Outlook Report, which provides an overview of agricultural performance, investment and other indicators over the past year. ReSAKSS presented the validated M&E system for CAADP and the first draft of the Comprehensive M&E Report for CAADP implementation at the 6th CAADP Partnership Platform, which took place in Johannesburg April 21 to 23, 2010. These developments and more can be easily tracked on the ReSAKSS website, through the bi-monthly e-Newsletter and through the ReSAKSS Twitter page.
