New ReSAKSS Issue Brief Finds Implementing CAADP Beneficial for Poverty Reduction and Growth in Zambia

ReSAKSS Issue Brief number 17 analyzes the feasibility of the CAADP 6 percent agricultural growth target and its potential impact on the Zambian economy. The brief shows that the agricultural growth target is attainable for the country and that it can significantly reduce poverty.

The issue brief finds that current agricultural growth alone is insufficient for Zambia to meet MDG1. Although the CAADP 6 percent agricultural growth target is also not enough to promote poverty reduction in line with MDG1, the higher growth in the sector will substantially reduce the number of people in poverty and improve food security in the country. The report concludes that the benefits of implementing CAADP go beyond the exclusive achievement of MDG1 and should therefore be pursued.
