The ReSAKSS-led discussion group at the 2009 IAAE Conference in Beijing, China entitled Informing African Agricultural Development, Planning and Policy will take place on August 19, 2009 in room 307 between 17:30 and 19:00.

The discussion group will bring together key actors and representatives from various institutions to discuss the future policy directions for African agricultural growth, poverty reduction and rural development. The participants of the discussion group will also elaborate on how to strengthen the capacity and knowledge base for agricultural policymaking in the context of broader development strategies in individual African countries, and the linkage of the on-going activities of the ReSAKSS network to the design and implementation of agricultural policies and strategies that are evidence-based and pro-poor in different African regions and countries.

The discussion group will enhance increased awareness and interest in ReSAKSS activities. The main outcomes of the discussion group include better understanding of efforts of different institutions working on African agricultural development; identification of future potential collaborators with ReSAKSS; feedback from development community and agricultural economists on current activities and ideas for the future.
