CAADP is a program of NEPAD

On 27 June 2009 a ‘CAADP Day’ was celebrated in Tripoli, Libya as part of the events preceeding the 13th AU Summit. This event was meant largely to reaffirm the commitments of key CAADP stakeholders in Africa and those of the international development community to the provision of a coordinated support to CAADP-reliant agricultural planning and policy development.

The CAADP Day was attended by 100+ delegates including Ministers of Agriculture from nine African countries (Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Mozambique, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe), and representatives of ReSAKSS, AUC, NEPAD, RECs (COMESA, ECCAS, ECOWAS, IGAD), Pan African Farmers’ Platform, CAADP Pillar Lead Institutions, thinks tanks from Africa and of at least 13 development partners (including AfDB, AGRA, CTA, DFID, EC, FAO, IFAD, JICA, UNWFP, UNECA, UNEP, UNHLTF Secretariat, and UNIDO) as well as Platform Secretariat.

The Day highlighted the progress made with respect to the elaboration of pillar framework documents and analytical works undertaken as part of CAADP-compliant agricultural programming in a number of countries. The meeting also reflected on the challenges facing CAADP including the need for improving the governance of agriculture, strengthening CSO involvement in CAADP processes, expediting organization of roundtables and providing a coordinated support especially to post-compact undertakings.
