Established in 2006 under the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP), the Regional Strategic Analysis and Knowledge Support System (ReSAKSS) supports efforts to promote evidence- and outcome-based policy planning and implementation. In particular, ReSAKSS provides data and related analytical and knowledge products to facilitate benchmarking, review, and mutual learning processes. The International Food Policy Research Institute facilitates the overall work of ReSAKSS in partnership with the African Union Commission, the NEPAD Planning and Coordinating Agency, regional economic communities, and Africa-based CGIAR centers.
The ReSAKSS website www.resakss.org provides continental, regional and national level data and related analytical and knowledge products on the CAADP implementation agenda. This includes a variety of resources: data, charts, maps, technical reports, and other publications related to African economies. The data and other resources available on ReSAKSS cover agriculture, environment, health, economic growth, nutrition, climate change, poverty, and other topics.
The ReSAKSS eAtlas platform, featured on the ReSAKSS website, is a country-level geographic information system (GIS) based mapping tool. It provides high-quality disaggregated and subnational data on agriculture, socioeconomics, demography, health, infrastructure and biophysics for 23 African countries.
One of the latest initiative of ReSAKSS is the ReSAKSS Data challenge (RDC), an effort which aims to raise awareness and use of the rich data sets and numerous knowledge products available on the ReSAKSS platform( www.resakss.org) by the broader community of stakeholders in academia, business, policy, media, arts and the civil society at large.
The ReSAKSS Data Challenge is a competition for enthusiastic data users to showcase their creativity and analytical skills by using data and other resources on the ReSAKSS website to develop an innovative knowledge product that addresses a development challenge faced by Africa.”
More specifically, the ReSAKSS Data Challenge seeks to:
- Introduce the ReSAKSS platform and its associated tools to a multitude of African audiences: students, researchers, analysts, media specialists, artists, entrepreneurs, and anyone interested in African in social and economic development, and related data and knowledge products;
- Encourage participants in the challenge to fully explore the range of data and indicators on the ReSAKSS platforms;
- Stimulate innovative use of data on African economies to create knowledge, tools, artistic products and services that will contribute to efforts to address matters of strategic importance to African society.
