ReSAKSS to Participate at the 13th CAADP Partnership Platform (PP) Meeting 31 May – 2 June 2017 Speke/Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort, Kampala, Uganda



The CAADP PP meeting, organized by the African Union Commission (AUC) and the NEPAD Planning and Coordinating Agency (NPCA), is the main dialogue platform for advancing the CAADP implementation agenda. The theme of the 13th CAADP PP meeting is “Strengthening Mutual Accountability to Achieve CAADP/Malabo Goals and Targets. Each year, the CAADP PP meeting brings together delegates from the AUC, NPCA, government, regional economic communities, farmers’ organizations, development partners, the private sector, women and youth groups, students, technical institutions, and civil society groups.



ReSAKSS will actively participate at the meeting including in various side meetings and events. In preparation for the CAADP PP meeting, from 29- 30 May, ReSAKSS will participate in a Policy Learning Event aimed at bringing about common understanding on the building blocks of a well-functioning policy system needed to drive implementation of national agriculture investment plans (NAIPs).



On May 31, 2017, ReSAKSS will host a Side Event on the: “Contribution of Climate-Smart Agriculture to Meeting Malabo Goals & Presentation of ReSAKSS Knowledge Products for Monitoring CAADP Performance.” The Side Event will take place from 10:45-12:15 in the Regal Conference Hall, Speke/Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort.



The objective of the Side Event is to present and discuss the current knowledge on the effects of climate change and evidence on the effectiveness of climate smart agriculture (CSA) strategies, the feature topic of the ReSAKSS 2016 Annual Trends and Outlook Report (ATOR).

Specifically, the Side Event will:




  • Introduce participants to ReSAKSS knowledge products in supporting evidence-based policy planning and implementation as well as facilitating CAADP benchmarking, review, and mutual accountability processes.

  • Present the feature topic and preliminary results of the 2016 ATOR on the contribution of climate-smart agriculture to meeting Malabo goals.

  • Demonstrate the use of ReSAKSS knowledge products, the ReSAKSS website, and country eAtlases in tracking CAADP progress at the country, regional, and continental levels.



Key speakers will include Professor Ayalneh Bogale, Adviser on Climate Change and Agriculture, at the Department of Rural Economy and Agriculture, AUC and Dr. Ousmane Badiane, Director for Africa at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).
